Quebec Lands Right To Hold Entry Draft

13draft27

The DWSHL has announced that the rights to host the DWSHL13 Entry Draft have been won by Quebec City. The Crunch were victorious in a random draw of all 30 teams to reestablish an order for the rights to hold on of the league’s most prestigious events. This will be the first time that Quebec has had the opportunity to hold the draft and comes in a year that figures to be highly scrutinized, as the league is in a mode of rapid turnaround. The DWSJL5 season is slated to kick off shortly and the DWSHL general managers will be keeping on eye on the progress of

the many players who will be draft eligible for this year and seasons beyond. The league is expected to announce the host of the DWSHL14 draft in the coming weeks. The team has already been chosen at random but the league is hoping to hold future lotteries via some sort of live format, which will provide the transparency that the league and its fans seek.

WOLVES OPEN RE-LAUNCH WITH FLURRY OF DEALS

Wolves-Head3-copy1
hejduk

Milan Hejduk is 12th all-time in goals scored with 424.

Coming off a DWSHL11 in which they overachieved, the San Diego Wolves made a surprise change during this extended offseason. Out is longtime General Manager Robin Jones being replaced by an unlikely figure in former Toronto GM Matt Chinnick. Chinnick wasted no time in bolstering the Wolves ascension up the Jim Beam ranks by adding a pair of wingers in Boston’s Milan Hejduk and P-A Parenteau. In addition to landing the pair of scoring wingers, San Diego received Anton Babchuk, Keith Ballard, and R.J. Umberger in exchange for top prospect Tyler Bozak, Shawn Matthias, and Garnet Exelby. The Wolves would stay busy as they deal Tomas Fleischmann to the Hanover Galaxy for Vaclav Prospal and Travis Zajac. All these pieces figure to supplement a roster led by formerly acquired Phil Kessel and coached by first year man Jon Cooper, who signed a $21 million contract this offseason. Many teams have remained in limbo in this season of uncertainty while the Wolves have committed to a full on run at the DWSHL title. Many draft picks have been moved from San Diego to land this bevy of veterans that look to have propelled the Wolves to the top of the heap when it comes to picking an early favorite to win the Drunks Cup.

LEAGUE TO REOPEN; FALCONS LOOK TO DEFEND TITLE

11chamfalx3

The Michigan Falcons dumped the Seattle Spartans 7-4 in game five of the Drunks Cup to win their second championship in four years amid rampant speculation that the DWSHL would be shutting its doors. As it would come to pass, the league did fold and the Falx had the bittersweet distinction of being the last champions of the storied league. Or so we thought. Fast forward four years and after a handful of broken down talks and refusals the league has been given a second life and has been met with popular demand. The Falcons are among the early contenders for the 12 Drunks Cup but the landscape of the league as a whole has changed with new rules, many retirements, and the parity of the league at a recent high. Many story lines have begun to develop as the league’s general managers have started to be reacquainted with their peers and are underway in the process of rebuilding their rosters. The DWSHL12 season is bound to excite.
